Chinese Opera Is a traditional form of art that originated in Beijing. The earliest trace of Chinese can take you back to the Song density, which was back in around 960-1279 AD. Chinese Opera Includes many art forms like music, dance, acting and more. The most popular play in Chinese opera is “Farewell My Concubine.” The actors in Chinese opera usually wear traditional Chinese clothes, very big headpieces and lots of makeup. You can see many actors wearing white and red makeup on their faces. Chinese opera is quite a sight to see, but what is its history?
Chinese opera, as mentioned before originated in Beijing and the earliest trace was found in the Song Density. Although when Chinese opera first originated no one knows, it did stand for quite a long time. Although modern Chinese opera is a bit different, it holds the same concept. Chinese opera back in the olden days was used to entertain people of all kinds. During the cultural revolution, the government tried to destroy “old ways of thinking” by trying to outlaw traditions. Chinese opera was one of the traditions attacked. When the Cultural Revolution ended, for a decade opera troupes were disbanded and the art of Chinese opera was thought to be “dead.” After 1976 Chinese opera came back from the dead and was in a way, revived. It became the modern Chinese Opera you see today.
Chinese opera might not seem all that different from western opera, but some differences set the two apart. For one, the clothing styles are different. In Chinese opera, you see more traditional clothes while in western opera, you might see modern or luxurious clothes. Also, while western opera they are more open and direct, in Chinese opera, they are more intricate and symbolic.
